Applying to a Primary or Secondary School
How do I apply to study in Alberta?
Find a school you would like to attend. Before you can apply to study in Alberta, you must first decide where you want to study. This can be a challenge given the number of options available. Our Alberta's Regions and the School District pages may help you to decide on a location. This page provides you with links to the websites of a number of school districts. |
Apply to the school district. Once you have selected a school, contact its local school district. The school district will provide you with the necessary forms and guide you through their application process. Depending on the district, you may require the following documents to complete the application process:
Pay your tuition fees. Once you have been accepted by the school district, they will issue you a letter of acceptance. After you receive this letter, you may pay your tuition fees to the appropriate school district. Fees and payment procedures for international students vary according to school district. Generally, application fees are non-refundable. Tuition fees may be refundable if cancellation notice is reasonable or a study permit is refused. Visit our School Fees page for general information on the costs of studying in Alberta. If you are interested in more specific tuition figures and policies on fees and refunds, please contact the appropriate school district. |
Prepare your application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). After you have been accepted into a school and have paid your tuition fees, you are ready to apply for a study permit. If you are applying from outside Canada, you will need to include your letter of acceptance in your study permit application. Study permits are issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Depending on your country of origin, you may also require a Temporary Residence Visa. Please visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website for the most up-to-date information on Study Permit and Visa requirements for international students. |
